Manchester Frame Running Hub

Frame running is the latest athletics event to be include in para athletics, it is for people with neurological conditions or similar that require extra support to be able to run. Most people who take part in Frame Running are wheelchair users, or unable to walk a short distance and unable to run.

The participants/athletes use a three wheeled frame to propel themselves forward using their legs and feet. They sit on a saddle and have a chest plate to support their upper body.

In 2022 we established a Manchester Frame Running Hub and currently we are the only place in the North West to offer the opportunity for some disabled people to experience running for the first time in their life. Every session is led by qualified coaches and several volunteers.

Sessions run on a Wednesday evening 5pm – 6.30pm at the Manchester Regional Athletics Arena Gate 13 Rowsley Street, Etihad Campus M11 3FF

Go Fund Me – Fundraising Appeal for New Frames

Following our appearance on the local ITV news, our waiting list has reached over 10, so we are fundraising for 4 new frames and accessories. Each frame needs to be tailored to meet the person’s specific needs along with the costs associated with long-term storage.

Each frame costs between £3,000-£5,000 to purchase and the club has a number of their own, but we need more to accommodate the ever-increasing waiting list.

Freddie is a star!

Freddie is one of our younger members and is still fairly new to the sport. In a a matter of weeks, his confidence has grown to the point where he can run 3 times round the track at speed! It is simply amazing to see how being supported by the frame, Freddie can achieve mobility that didn’t seem previously possible.  We couldn’t be prouder of him for his effort and improvement!

We do have a number of smaller frames available for younger children, so if your child (or a child you support) has Cerebral Palsy (or a related impairment) and is in commuting distance of Manchester, please get in touch and we can give you more details. Please email: info@ability-consultancy.co.uk
